Today was my longest ride of the year so far. And what a fantastic one it was. 64 miles off into the Essex countryside to ride to Maldon and back with a cake stop on the way home where Tatia and Seri were waiting for me.
There is a hill on the route which is as scary as it is fun. It has a blind summit so it looks as though you are about to cycle over the edge of a cliff. The hill then drops away but has a t-junction close to the bottom, so you have to be able to stop or it’s good night Sooty.
I think I am about the fittest I have ever been and even the sit bones didn’t hurt too much. Still, I was glad to be home. This is all good preparation though for the 75 mile Essex Orchid at the beginning of June. I have decided against doing the 100 miles again but who knows, one year maybe.
