It seemed like forever since I had a decent ride out on my bike (I don’t count the 30 minute commute on a Boris bike as a decent ride). Then I checked the date of my last outing and realised it was.
It is so easy to let crap get in the way of cycling at this time of the year. What with Christmas, freezing weather and black ice. But I have decided that it is now time to say enough is enough, wrap up in thermal lycra (yes it really does exist), and get out there and get on with it. So that is the plan for this Sunday. There is only one thing that might stop it. This:
Even then, if the seafront is ok, I’ll go along the cycle path and back a couple of times. Being a 13 mile round trip, I ought to be able to knock up 26 miles (and no hills!).
I really do need to get out there as training starts in earnest next weekend for the Cam to Coast ride. I’m out with the first of three training rides organised by Cycle Southend in a couple of weeks.
And I need to change my diet and get a lot of weight off. The side effects of having given up smoking 30 cigarettes a day about four years have taken their toll or long enough and my aim is to shed a couple of stone. Easy to say, much harder to do and I need to work out the best way to do it. Ok, so eat less is perhaps the obvious solution, but is it the best way of loosing weight while needing to keep up the carbs for cycling.
