I was up with the larks this morning duly eating my porridge before setting out for the Orchid Essex bike ride. The weather forecast was not good and I was expecting to get wet before I finished. The sun was shining when I left the house at 7:00 am and it still looked pretty good at the start line. But sadly it didn’t last. It started raining after about 3 hours and then got steadily heavier.
But what a fantastic ride it was, even with the rain. And a new record for me as 75 miles is the longest I have ridden at one time. Maybe I’ll do the 100 miler next year!
The route went through some of the most prettiest villages I have seen in Essex. Like Pleshey which could have come straight off a chocolate box.
The route could have been better signposted and I was saved by my Garmin twice. And at 66 miles I was wet, cold, exhausted and hurting. And I thought, “why do I do this to myself?”. And without hesitating I replied “Because I love it!”. Oh and yes I do talk to myself like that while riding. Not only that but I raised of £250 for the Orchid Charity.
And when I got to the finish line, what a wonderful surprise, Tatia and Seri had braved the cold and the rain to meet me.
